Many Marylanders have played significant roles in the state’s impressive growth
in recent years. However, some have more influence than others because of their
prominence, activities and community involvement. With our 2009 Influential
Marylanders awards, we will honor those people who have each made truly
significant impacts in their fields and continue to be leaders in Maryland.

Scott Ferber
Founder & Chairman
TidalTV
Having
co-founded the online advertising firm Advertising.com in 1998, and serving as
chairman and CEO, Scott Ferber sold the company to Time Warner in 2004 for
nearly half a billion dollars.
His new venture, currently in development, is TidalTV, an online video
platform designed to closely mirror traditional television. It has channels with
premium broadcast and cable network shows, a remote control and commercials.
“What we love about TV is being able to ask it to entertain, educate and
inform us just by sitting down and clicking through channels,” he says. “TidalTV
wants to provide that same potential online. We want to deliver the comfort,
ease of use and simplicity of TV, while offering all of the control and
selection that we are accustomed to on the Web. It’s the best of both worlds.”
Because of his outstanding accomplishments, Ferber was named Ernst &
Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000, CEO of the Year in 2004 by Blue Chip
Venture Company, and Best Executive in 2005 by the American Business Awards.
